Once Upon a Mattress |

OMers use their creativity for more than just problem-solving. Look what happened one night at the 1996 World Finals, as recounted in one of Matt's college essays: I once, and still do, have two friends. Let's call them Marc and Corey. On one of our class trips, we all shared a dorm room together. One fine evening, when they were alone in the room, Corey told Marc, "Hey Marc, let's do something to Matt's mattress." "What sort of something do you mean?" asked Marc. "Something mean!" he replied. Marc's face assumed an evil grin. Corey brought the mattress out of the room. They carried it down four flights of stairs and threw it on the ground. "Hey Marc, what do you think we should do to this mattress?" he asked. Marc eagerly covered it with a mix of shampoo, water, and dirt, smiling the whole time. "Matt will sure be surprised!" he said. Later that night, when bedtime arrived, the three of us headed toward our room. I told Marc how tired I was and he giggled under his breath. We opened the door. Corey and I plopped down on our own comfy beds. My plan had been a success! A half-hour later, Marc sullenly dragged in his soiled mattress. |
